Sarah Ijaz
President Class of 2012 Hometown: Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. / Lahore, Pakistan Major: Economics
Salaam everyone!
I'm originally from Lahore, Pakistan but was born and brought up in Abu Dhabi. Diversity was a key factor for me coming here to Penn since I've grown up in an extremely multicultural environment. Coming from halfway around the world, anything similar to the atmosphere I had been raised in was exactly what I needed and I certainly found it in the MSA here. After interacting with just a few of the organization's members during orientation, I decided that this was an organization I would definitely want to become and inshAllah remain a part of. Apart from the MSA, I love spending time with friends, shopping and of course European soccer- GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED! :) |

Faizan Khan Vice President Class of 2012 Major: Health Care Management & Policy
Salaam!
Being a part of MSA board and the greater Muslim student community at Penn has been one of my greatest experiences during college. Negotiating your own life in college can be challenging---but the people around you can help make it fun and exciting! Outside of MSA, I enjoy giving campus tours and creating change through student government. I'm also a TV and movie addict, and I root for the #1 sports team in the nation---the Yankees! |

Mohammed Hussain Treasurer Class of 2013 Hometown: Sudbury, MA Major: Biochemistry and Political Science
Salaam everyone.
My name is Mak Hussain. I'm from the streets of suburban MA. I'm excited to work on board this year and work with all of you to help make the MSA as good as it can be in order to positively impact you, myself, and our community. I'm all about forming relationships with the Muslim community at Penn, and I hope to be able to help strengthen that community and provide meaningful, engaging, and fun programming that can benefit you however you feel most appropriate. In terms of personal stuff, I've done martial arts for the vast majority of my life, and I play the saxophone as well (though not as much at Penn). Recently I've been getting into poetry, but still working on that. The MSA has been a great resource for me to meet cool new people here at Penn, and so I encourage everyone out there to give it a shot. |

Dahlia Kenawy Fundraising Chair Class of 2014 Hometown: West Chester, PA Major: Bioengineering
Salam!
My name is Dahlia Kenawy, and I'm a freshman majoring in bioengineering. My family is originally from Egypt, but I've spent most of my life in a small town in Pennsylvania, so I'm thrilled to finally get a chance to live in a city with a big Muslim population. What I love most about Penn is the diversity that is evident throughout the campus, and especially in the MSA. In my spare time (which I never get enough of), I like watching TV (mostly sci-fi and comedy), doing jigsaw puzzles, and hanging out with interesting and funny people. |

Salaam everyone,
I’m from Bangladesh, born in Iran and currently reside in New York. I enjoy fencing, yogurt, and train rides. Newly elected to the board, I am both honored and excited; I hope that throughout this year the MSA will grow to act as both a religious and cultural community to become not a club of members but (quasi)-friends :D |

Lateef Lawal Islamic Education Co-Chair Class of 2012 Hometown: Houston, TX Major: Too Complicated
Salaam Alaikum.
My name is Lateef Lawal. I from the dirty, dirty south AKA Houston TX. Since the time I moved to Philadelphia, the UPENN MSA has been my home away from home. The amount of friends that I have made here has been awesome. All the events the MSA have been responsible have contributed to my Penn experience. The MSA at Penn is filled with a lot of diversity and offers not only a great way to meet people but to learn about our deen. What matter what your needs are whether it’s engaging in community activism, awesome social events, or even deen-intensifying halaqas, bi'ithnillah the Penn MSA has an answer…so hit us up!!!! |

Aya Saed Social Co-Chair Class of 2013 Hometown: Annandale, VA Major: International Relations
Salaam!
While originally Sudanese, I lived in Saudi Arabia and Washington D.C. my entire life. Having lived in such politically charged regions has allowed me to appreciate a strong sense of community and heightened my awareness on world affairs. So coming to Penn and being involved in this community is something I greatly value and have come to love. I'm really excited to do my part since the MSA has played such a HUGE role in enhancing my PENN experience. From having coffee with famous Islamic scholars to getting tutored on accounting to going on spontaneous trips to the beach, the MSA truly is a bridge between my social, spiritual and academic life. I like to learn new languages, meet fabulous people and try new things! (as long as its halal, of course). |
