About: Penn Muslims for Change heeds the Prophet Muhammad's advice that whenever we see injustice, we must actively oppose it in our hearts, with our words, and if possible, through our actions. To inspire action, we raise awareness of local and global issues through speaking panels, monthly newsletters, and campus rallies. PMJ provides you with a unique opportunity to impact the larger community. Secondly, we strive to fortify our relationship with the West Philadelphia community. We take particular interest in nurturing ties with Masjid Al-Jamia, which provides a hub for food and clothing drives, tutoring services, Zakat distribution, and neighborhood beautification projects. About: 36 Hours for Darfur: Penn Responds to Genocide Penn Muslims for Justice organized and participated in a campus-wide sit-in on College Green to raise awareness and funds for the tragic events in Darfur. Hundreds of individuals stopped by to tie-dye t-shirts and participate in the candlelight vigil. We are proud to have led this incredible effort in April 2007, which raised thousands of dollars for the International Rescue Committee, and hope to organize similar activities in the future. |
